Even though it is seems obvious, most of us never think of skin as our biggest organ. It visually represents us and speaks for us before we say anything. Our skin can often show if we are healthy or not. Many diseases leave their traces on skin and tell us that something is wrong with our body, so it is all connected in a way.
‘’Forever young’’ is what we all are striving for and often when we run into people who look much younger than they really are, it brings up a question, how?
The genes that define us are not something that we can change, but there certainly are some habits and lifestyles we can change for the better.
Here are few great ways to take care of your skin and keep it healthy and clean.
Bedtime is when your skin regenerates, so make sure you have a proper sleeping routine and you use an anti-wrinkle night cream. 7 to 8 hours of sleep is suggested for everyone in order to recharge and head into a new day. When we allow ourselves to neglect a healthy sleep pattern, even for only a couple of days, the sleep deprivation can have a visible affect on our skin.
Proper food and water
As it is said: ‘‘you are what you eat. ’’Your body is your warehouse so make sure you stock it with the proper groceries. Enjoy a daily intake of fresh fruits and vegetables, as your skin relies on vitamin A to stay strong and elastic. Food such as carrots, sweet potato, kale, spinach and broccoli will provide your skin with the nourishment it needs.
Cut down on alcoholic drinks and caffeine.
Maybe the most important practice for healthy skin is water consumption. It is always a good idea to drink more water.
Water is essential for our body to function. 70% of our body mass is made up of
water, including skin. Water will maintain our skin’s moisture and provide the cells with essential nutrients. Water is also the best alternative to anti-aging treatments. It’ll keep skin soft and tender. It can often prove to be inconvenient at first, to introduce more frequent water intake early on as toilet rushes can be annoying, but it’s an inconvenience that will prove to be well worth it as your body and skin will be very thankful- visibly so.
Make exercise a daily routine in your life for it shall pay off many times over. You will feel better, more satisfied and ready to take on new challenges. By increasing blood flow, skin cells are nourished and provided with oxygen and the nutrients they need to stay vital. As we sweat it allows our pores to breathe, so don’t be afraid of a good sweat and let your skin feel alive.
There is a sure fire way to make you look older and that is smoking. Not only does it change your skin, it affects your whole body, hair, teeth and organs in ways that most smokers don’t even want to think about. Out of sight, out of mind and on like that until something serious happens.
Premature wrinkling, aging, damage to skin’s collagen and elastin…Just name it, smoking can cause a whole bunch of health problems as well as making your skin look very greasy.
At the end of a day, it all comes down to taking care of ourselves. Our skin reflects what is going on inside both our body and mind. Just like water, we are liquid, adjustable and changeable. It is never too late to change for the better and let it shine through your skin.
