BUY THIS BOOK:
I’m excited to share another fun book series I discovered. Blood Debt by Nancy Straight is a compelling YA Paranormal Romance about…wait for it…Centaurs. I know, right? So different from anything I’ve encountered in this genre, and I simply had to investigate further.
I think the first thing that caught my attention in this series was the totally original storyline. Centaurs? Really? I didn’t know much about the mythology behind the subject to begin with, and that alone intrigued me enough to pick up the book. Once I started reading, the story opened up with an immediate and compelling dilemma for the heroine of the story, Camille. She is getting ready to contact her biological father for the first time in her entire life. A father who doesn’t know she exists. So now I’m connecting with her on an emotional level and prepared to follow this phone call through, you know, to give her the moral support she needs. 🙂 Her journey to South Carolina to meet a family she’s never known before is all the more intriguing due to the amount of foreshadowing that all may not be as it seems, and Camille may have a few secrets to uncover before she’s able to trust this new family.
Enter the world of Centaurs where customs, traditions and culture are an integral part of what makes a centaur a centaur and what makes Camille so different. Add in an arranged marriage, a deranged grandmother. a blood debt and a forbidden love with a scrumptious centaur named Drake and you’ve pretty much nailed down the formula for my idea of wonderful; a story with conflict and tension on every page, a plot with several twists and turns, a heroine worth rooting for and a cast of strong supporting characters you love and hate for all the right reasons. I loved it. If you love fantasy and paranormal romance you’re gonna love it too. Oh, and by the way, Nancy dear, I was up until 2 a.m. finishing it. Darn you.
Some reviewers made comments that there were shifting points of view that were very confusing. I think the author must have listened to those constructive critiques because the chapters are now titled with the name from whom the narrative is being told. So I didn’t experience any confusion in that department. Nice to have an author willing to listen to helpful suggestions in order to better her writing and improve the journey for her fans. This entertaining read is currently priced as free so I would jump on that bargain and see if you like the series as much as I did.
