Recently, I developed some weird allergies to a few of the chemicals that are in a lot of every day household products. We tried several different brands including many organic with no change in the skin irritations I was dealing with. As a result, we have started making our own products at home using all natural ingredients. One of the main switches we made was our laundry soap. Here is my absolute favorite laundry soap recipe that I discovered via WelnessMama.com. There are only 5 ingredients, it is super fast, super cheap and lasts for quite a while. We tend to get about 40 loads of laundry out of each batch.
Here is what you will need:
All Natural 20 Mule Team Borax Detergent Booster. (Borax is toxic if ingested, so keep away from children and wash your hands well after handling it)
Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda.
Arm & Hammer Pure Baking Soda.
Pure Castile Soap Bar (choose the scent you like).
Fine Cheese Grater
Funnel (to transfer mixture if you are using a small necked container).
I get all of these ingredients at my local super market.
1. With the fine side of your cheese grater, grate the bar of soap. You will need 2 cups (this tends to be a little less than an entire bar). Measure out 2 cups into a large mixing bowl.
My favorite scents are Peppermint, Almond and Lavender. There are others as well, but I tend to enjoy these the most for my fresh laundry!
2. Next, measure 4 cups of Borax and 4 cups of Washing Soda into your mixing bowl.
3. Add 2-4 teaspoons of baking soda to the mixture (optional).
4. Mix well and transfer to your container. I use a large glass jar with a sealing lid. I pour all of my ingredients directly into my jar and shake it well.
Use about 1/8 cup for small loads and about 1/4 cup for large loads.
And there you go! Now you are ready to tackle some laundry, chemical free!
There are many wonderful all natural recipes for everyday products that you can make yourself. It is a wonderful feeling knowing exactly what you are exposing yourself and your family to.
