Spice up your room with a splash of color. This tip is not expensive or too time consuming. Use shelves you already have, or buy reasonable priced shelving units at IKEA or Bed Bath & Beyond. Take out the shelves if possible or use painters tape around the shelves to make painting easier. Then pick a bright color that will accent the rest of the room. I picked bright orange because I have a pretty bright personality.
Using the paint you have selected, paint the entire back of the shelf. If you have multiple pieces like I did, but would like to push them together to look like one unit, make sure to get all of the pieces painted. Depending on the original color of your shelves and the color you have chosen to paint over it, you may need multiple coats. Now just replace the shelves and fill them with your favorite things.
The best thing about having this pop of color is that not every shelf needs to have something on it. You can go the simple route and let the color shine through on select shelves. This makes such a dramatic change in a room. Don’t be afraid to tie the room together by using the same bright color in your accents like pillows, books or candles sprinkled throughout the room.
If you would rather skip the painting or if you want to make a more dramatic statement, add your favorite wallpaper or scrap book paper onto the shelf backing.
We used a large world map print for this refurbished TV Stand to match the fun map knobs we found at Hobby Lobby.
