I am a busy person and I find that it is almost impossible to manage a consistent schedule for getting to the gym. Something always comes up or I become unmotivated by all of the prep-time just commuting there to workout. My solution was to find a way to workout at home.
Not too long ago I downloaded an app called FitStar Personal Trainer (fitstar.com) and it is amazing. The workouts do not require gym equipment nor a lot of workout space yet they feel good and fulfilling. I find that I can escape to the basement and run through a workout in no time. I say “escape” to the basement because the kids like to form search parties to hunt me down and interrupt my workouts. There is nothing more frustrating than a kid jumping on your back while you’re in the middle of a long planking session. So I got into the habit of asking them if they wanted to join me and, to my surprise, they did. They actually ended up holding me accountable because they wanted to workout with me.
If you are looking for motivation and guidance on your workouts then FitStar Personal Trainer is a good app for you. There is a quick setup process (I chose to login through Facebook because it was easier) and you can login and use the app on your iPhone (no Android version yet but they are considering it), iPad or even your laptop. Even if you just do it on your laptop, it is worth it. Each workout gives you a video preview of what you will be doing so you can just get to it without reading a bunch of directions. I like that. The app does a good job of keeping you on pace. Once the workout is done you get a chance to rate it and make comments on it. The bonus is that it automatically inputs your workout activity into the built-in Health app on your iPhone so you can track your progress.
If you prefer yoga, they have an app for that and it is called FitStar Yoga. It functions the same as FitStar Personal Trainer and both have basic (free) plans or you can upgrade to the premium plan for as little as $7.99 a month. It is worth trying both apps on basic to see if either of them is right for you. Don’t forget to take those home-gym selfies to amaze your friends on social media!
